All the Earth

Palm 47 declares that God rules, reins, owns, and bears the right to all peoples, lands, and nations. He calls all peoples to rejoice in Him because He is God over all the earth. We are called to sing praises to Him because He is King of all the earth. God reigns over all nations from His holy throne and all the shields of the earth belong to Him. He alone is highly exalted.

Do all nations truly belong to God? God Himself has spoken when He ascended into Heaven. Jesus declared, “all authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to Me”. (Matthew 28:18) He did not begin His commission with “go and make disciples of all nations”. He began by declaring His own authority that already exists in all the earth. “Go therefore”, He commissioned. (Matthew 28:19) Because all the earth already belongs to Him, go let the peoples know. Because it’s already His, go and talk about what He’s done.

Don’t go to battle the devil. Just say it like it is: “this place belongs to God”. Don’t fight for God; be still and watch Him fight for you. Don’t work for victory; work from victory. Every nation is already His.

There is a promise in Psalm 47: God desires the joy of all nations, a joy that is already found in Him. The call is not an uncertain plea to people who will reject Christ’s lordship. It is a call that brings forth into being that which does not yet exist. (Romans 4:17)

There is power in the gospel’s beckoning. God already reigns over all nations, “therefore go and make disciples of all nations”. You will not create them. You will find them - God will do the work. So the promise remains: all the earth belongs to God. His great commission is fail-proof. Do we live like that is true? May it begin with a song in our own hearts: “Lord, You reign over all the earth!”
